At Downhill Hostel we have created a self-catering guesthouse providing accommodation for guests who want a beautiful simple environment to explore Northern Ireland’s Giant’s Causeway Coast on a budget, or just to get away from it all. Backpackers, families, couples, and small groups / youth groups have all found Downhill to be their special place. School trips and educational travel groups are welcome during the school year. We can accommodate 25 – 35 guests. There is a well equipped kitchen, dining room, living room, laundry facilities, internet area, reading area and garden for guests.
The lounge or living room is a comfortable space with leather sofas, original working fireplace, games, books, toys, and legendary vinyl collection. It is suitable as a small meeting room. There is also a reading nook on the middle level of the house with sofa and chairs that overlooks the sea.
The dining room can be set with up to 4 tables seating a maximum of 28 at one sitting. There is an original working fireplace and the room features a small gallery of art made on the premises as well as local photographs and publications.
The guest kitchen is well equipped for self-catering. There are 2 stove-tops, oven, microwave, toasters, coffee maker, 3 small fridges, 1 freezer, good quality pots and pans, and dishes sufficient for 30. We provide a ‘spice shelf’ free for self-catering use stocked with kitchen basics, spices, seasonings, oils, vinegars, tea, coffee, sugar, jams, spreads. This is so that guests do not have to bring every little thing with them, rather can do a standard shop at the nearby grocery store to be able to cook like they are at home.
Hostel utility areas are spacious with facilities for washing up, laundry, recycling, compost, and space for baby equipment. We have 2 highchairs and a walker for families to borrow. There is level access through the utility entrance and a lowered sink and bench area. We are happy to place a microwave, kettle and toaster in this area should they be helpful for accessibility requirements.
