Public Transportation

We are located on the main A2 Causeway Coastal Route between Limavady and Coleraine, County Derry/Londonderry. If you are coming from Belfast or anywhere on the North Coast you will want to take a bus or train to Coleraine then on to Caslterock. If you are traveling by bus you can continue to Downhill and get off right in front of the hostel on bus route #134 that go on to Limavady. If you are taking the train, you will get off at Castlerock then walk or taxi to the hostel. If you are coming from Derry you can take the bus to Limavady then on to Downhill or take the train to Castlerock. This is a particularly beautiful train journey along the coast and is much faster than the bus. Once in Castlerock you will either walk or taxi to the hostel. Please note, Downhill does not currently have its own shop, our nearest shop is in Castlerock, so if you are on foot, you should bring food with you before you arrive!

Bus Services:

Ulsterbus service #134 running between Coleraine and Limavady stops in front of the hostel 8 times daily, Monday through Saturday. On Sunday the bus stops in Castlerock, but does not continue to Downhill. The Downhill stop on route #134 is a request stop so the bus will stop when asked, but the stop is not printed on the timetables. On the linked timetables the Downhill stop is between the stop called ‘Benone/Magilligan’ and ‘Castlerock’

Train Services:

Northern Ireland Railways’ Belfast-Londonderry line runs through Downhill. The nearest stop to the hostel is in Castlerock, 2.5km from the hostel. The Castlerock halt is 2 stops from Derry (roughly 35 minutes) heading towards Belfast, and 1 stop after Coleraine if coming from Belfast (10 minutes) .The train stops in Castlerock 8 times daily Monday-Saturday and 5 times on Sunday.

Local Taxi service from Castlerock: William Thompson Taxi (T) 077 6633 5370 is a Castlerock taxi firm. If you need a taxi from the Castlerock train station you should ring William for the best rates. Taxi service starts at approximately 10:00 am. Taxi’s in the area are often small firms and work late into the evening. Be aware you will not be able to get a taxi to the train station early in the morning!
