How to Contact the Downhill Hostel
book here! A tourist hostel in one of the most beautiful locations in Northern Ireland! Stunningly situated, the Downhill Hostel overlooks the North Coasts' longest beach and the Atlantic Ocean. The hostel is backed by dramatic cliffs and bordered by a stream, creating the perfect setting for relaxed days and evenings. The building has recently been updated, while maintaining it's attractive character.

Who we are:

The hostel is run by William and McCall Gilfillan a couple dedicated to hospitality. The building itself is named Glenhassan Hall, and was built in the late Victorian period. The Gilfillan's have gone to long effort to maintain the original spirit of the building, while fitting it out as a hostel to provide a high standard of facilities and comfort.

COMMON ROOM
with original fireplace, available music and games.
READING AREA
with lots of books and magazines.
KITCHEN
fully equipped with lots of spices, tea, and coffee provided.
DINING ROOM
with 16+ seating accommodation, overlooks the ocean.
FULL SIZED BEDS
Very comfortable, small dormitories, and six private bedrooms.
HOT WATER
All day, in sinks and private showers.
GARDENS
With picnic tables, are great for sunning or barbequeing.
LAUNDRY facilities available.

Prices for 2008:
DORMITORY : from £11 per bed
PRIVATE ROOM : from £35 per room
FAMILY ROOM : from £40

Attractions:

Giant's Causeway, Northern Ireland's #1 attraction, is just 30 minutes by car.

Benone Beach, the largest beach in Ireland at 10 km, is great for walking, surfing and windsurfing, sea angling, and sand-castle building.

Benone Tourist Complex with tennis courts and a nine-hole golf course.

Mussenden Temple & Gardens and the old Downhill House, both owned by the National Trust, are just "uphill" within a 5 minute walk.

Elements Studio Ceramics is located behind the Downhill Hostel. Watch a potter at work, or paint a piece of pottery yourself!

Downhill Forest, with walking paths that explore peaceful ponds and waterfalls.

Horseback riding can be arranged through forest paths or on the beach, depending on the rider's experience.

Hezlett House, a traditional Irish thatched cottage maintained as a museum.

Bushmill's Distillery, Dunluce Castle, and the Giant's Causeway are 30 minutes from the Downhill Hostel by car, and are also easily accessible by public transportation.
