photos in and around Downhill...
This album is all photos of places within walking distance of the hostel.
There are wonderful walks around Downhill. The hostel is backed by an estate which belonged to Fredrick Hervey, Earl Bishop of Derry and is now owned by the National Trust. The ruins of the Bishop’s palace, garden grounds, and library (now called the Mussenden Temple) are all with in the estate. Across from the estate is a small forest with walking trails. The cottage museum Hezlett House is at the top of the hill by the Castlerock villiage with our local shop, pubs, cafe, and bakery. Then there is the beach itself, claiming to be the longest strand on the island. The sand is fine and lovely for walking barefoot. Many sports enthusiasts enjoy surfing, fishing, kite buggy racing, and horse riding on the beach. Click on photos for larger image.
